KINGWOOD Co 5 - 10/8/25 - 7:21am
DESCRIPTION: Vehicle Fire
LOCATION: Manown Area
Company 5 was paged for a vehicle fire on Veterans Memorial Highway in the Manown area. Engine 56 responded with a crew and brought the fire under control in minutes. What is significant about this morning’s fire is the near miss of a firefighter getting burned. There are several type of metals in a vehicle. One of those metals Is magnesium. It is commonly found in the steering column. When magnesium is hit with water it causes a reaction generating sparks at approximately 3000 degrees. The pictures are damaged gear from the magnesium sparks. This shows the importance of our PPE. It saved one of our firefighters from getting seriously injured. The cost to replace this gear is minimal compared to the other outcome that could have happened.
