This morning about quarter past 10, KVFD, along with KAMP and Terra Alta Ambulances were alerted for a two vehicle collision with two to three patients. Squad 5 and Unit 52 responded with a crew of 7. EMS informed Company 5 that there was extrication needed for two patients. Once on scene, KVFD stabilized the pick-up truck and prepared for extrication using the Hurst tools, as well as assisting EMS with stabilizing the pt's during extrication. The pick-up truck was loaded with gravel in the bed and a fair amount of it went into the cab, making it more difficult than normal to free the patients of the vehicle. During extrication, EMS requested two helicopters for the patients. After extrication was complete, Squad 5 and Unit 52 cleared the scene shortly after to set up the LZ needed for the helicopters with HealthNet 1 having a 12 minute ETA, and STAT MedEvac 5 with 20 minutes as of the time of their launch. Units 54 and 52 set up the LZ, and assisted EMS with patient care, as well as patient packaging when aeromedical crews were ready for patient transfer. HealthNet 1 and STAT 5 were in the air by 11:21, and Company 5 was back in service.
